Getting a private pilots license: Steps to follow?

I have forever wanted to fly planes and I live like 5 minutes from a local airport, which daily feeds my desire to fly. I am at the place now in my life where I have some spare time and money to actually put into this. Anyone have suggestions to get me started in this process?
