Why would people lie about UFOs?

I know some are lying, but all of them. Really? There are so many, some of them are very credible, like navy pilots and I think an astronaut. How could all of them be lying. This is not just UFOs, how about other conspiracy theories like 9/11 and stuff like that. Why do you think people would all join up and lie about things this serious.
