Is a XT350 good for trail riding?

I'm thinking about buying a 91 XT350 that needs te carburetor cleaned, I was wondering if it would be good for trails, mud, etc. Also I was wondering about the pilot jet if that could be the problem and if it was okay to drill it out with a .018 drill bit like everyone does.
