Am i mean giving this gift to my best friend. I'm loaded but hate spending money?

I'm invited to a wedding. I do not go to many social gatherings. This is my best friends. I'm a 43yr old female. I live at home with my mum and i save all my money since i started working 22yrs ago. My boyfriend lives around the corner - with his mom too. He is similar to me. We are just not big spenders and basically prefer to watch our accounts grow fatter. But we do not believe in wasting money. I bought my friend something in a thrift store for her wedding....is this bad? Isnt it the thought that counts? I also borrowed a dress from another friend as i do not want to spend money on a party dress.
